The Preparatory meeting of the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice for western Asian countries begins in Doha on 3 to 5 February 2014.

Qatar had attended a preparatory meeting in Bangkok on 22-24 January 2014 , under the leadership of Maj. Gen, Dr. Abdullah Yusuf al Mal, the Legal Advisor of HE Minister of Interior and the Chairman of the Preparatory Committee, where several topics for the congress were discussed.

A workshop by Thailand’s Institute of Justice, which was attended by delegates from Qatar and Thailand discussed developments and lessons learned from the previous congresses and reviewed the Thai experience in hosting the 11th congress in 2005 and Qatar’s preparations for the 13th congress. The United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which is observed as a prominent international conference under UN with the participation of the most of countries, is held in every five years since 1955.

The previous conferences were successful to provide technical assistance and specialized studies, as they helped to promote the exchange of experiences and cooperation between the countries, which led to the formulation of international principles regarding crime and criminal justice.
