 UN Crime Congress: Qatari Delegation Visits Japan

As part of the preparations for 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice hosted in Doha in April 2015, Qatari delegation visited Japan on Monday October 20, 2014. The Qatari delegation headed by the Chairman of the UN Congress Preparatory Committee Maj. Gen. Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal met with Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Takashi UTO. The ambassador of Qatar to Japan HE Yusuf Muhammad Bilal also attended the meet.

During the meeting, Japan's efforts in support of the conference were reviewed as well as post-2015 development agenda was discussed. The Japanese side has expressed their keenness in the success of the conference and their participation in high-level meeting.

The delegates also met the Attorney General of Japan Mr. Kotaro Ono and held discussions on the preparations of the conference. The attorney general of Japan lauded the efforts Qatar for the success of the conference.

Official talks were also held between the two sides in the presence of the Ambassador of Qatar to Japan and Dimitri Vlassis, the Chief of UNODC's Corruption and Economic Crime Branch.

All topics and workshops included in the conference and vision of Japan on the draft Doha Declaration were reviewed and discussed in the presence of representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs and Justice.

The Qatari delegation has earlier visited the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime to learn about the system of the institute and their efforts made for the participation in workshops held on the sidelines of 13th UN Crime Congress.
