 Orientation Seminar for Media Persons on 13th UN Crime Congress

In the pursuit of preparation for the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the Preparatory Committee organized an orientation seminar in civil defense officer’s club on Saturday, March 21, 2015, for the local and international media representatives to enable the visual and print media for effective coverage of the 13th UN Crime Congress.

The meeting was attended by HE Maj. Gen. Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal, the Advisor of HE the Minister of Interior who is also the chairman of the Preparatory Committee, Abdullah Khaleefa al-Muftah, director of Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior, Abdullah Fakhroo, representative of Qatar foundation, Gary Hill, Coordinator Ancillary, Professional and Specialized Meetings and for Congress Exhibits, Ahmed Oudah, Media Consultant for the Congress and members of the media committee.

In his keynote address ,. Col. Abdullah Khalifa Al-Muftah, Director, Public Relations Department at MOI, welcomed the media representatives stating that the Preparatory Committee of the congress is keen on the meeting with the media professionals and journalists giving them an outline about agenda of the Crime Congress and adequate information about their role in media coverage at the right time.

Gary Hill, Coordinator Ancillary, Professional and Specialized Meetings and for Congress Exhibits presented the organizational arrangements of the Doha Congress and an overview of the previous congresses. He explained that this Congress is being held every five years and it’s greatly important for different law enforcement agencies in the world. Hence, there will be high level participation in the Congress and it’s a political conference whereas the UN bodies will follow up the recommendations of the Doha declaration and its outputs for the next five years.

Abdullah Fakhroo ,the representative of Qatar Foundation explained about the Doha Youth Forum , which will be held in advance of the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime prevention and Criminal Justice on 7-9 April 2015. This is 100% Qatari initiative that to be held for the first time in the history of the Congress. The Forum aims at the involvement of the youth in discussions with the subjects related to crime prevention and criminal justice and make them aware on the role of United Nations in it. He further added that 120 students of 40 different nationalities have been selected for the participation in the Congress in coordination with Hamad Bin Khalifa University and other Universities in the country.
