Students Share Their Visions in Doha Youth Forum

The second day session of the Doha Youth Forum for Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice which is being organized by Qatar Foundation and the Preparatory Committee of the UN Crime Congress, in advance to the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice was alive with dynamic workshops and panel discussions on the topics which have been put forward.
Dr. Khalid Al-Khanji, Vice President of Student Affairs at Hamad Bin Khalifa University explained that the day witnessed lengthy discussions on the final recommendations to be submitted to the leaders who will attend the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Doha being held during 12-19 April. The recommendations highlighted ideas and suggestions of the youth related to crime prevention and criminal justice that reflected innovative and diversified thoughts of the students who are from different backgrounds. He added that the students participated in the discussion actively with creativity and openness that helped to form acceptable solutions for the problems that have been put forward in the forum workshops.
The students were divided into three groups, where each group made discussions on each of the three topics on the agenda; the emerging crimes, public participation and the rule of law. A plenary session of each workshop was held to formulate ideas of workshops in preparation to present in the recommendations which will be announced tomorrow morning (Thursday) in a public meet gathering all groups. The most noticeable discussions and results will be presented there.

Three students, one from each group, who figured the best in selection criteria will be selected as the leaders. The selected leaders will represent their group in the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
One of the three workshop discussed global awareness campaign that concern providing basic information for all, with respect to the concepts of human rights all over the world through various media such as television, newspapers, radio, Internet. The objective is to raise the members of the community as leaders in their communities doing their responsibilities, who can play important roles in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice.
The workshop also proposed to establish a global youth forum, so as to enable them to address the problems in their communities and try to find solutions through communication with the United Nations.
The groups also discussed the role of community policing in crime prevention. There are many ways to participate the members of the community and involve them in solving their problems and working for the security of the society with the help of the police. Participation of neighborhood groups and proper communication with the use of modern media will work a lot in this regard.

The students who take part in the Forum expressed their happiness and were enthusiastic to voice their views on the important issues at the international level. Many of them viewed that the effective use of social media can bring creative changes in the youth and students all over the world.
Abdul Aziz Al Asakir, one of the students participating from Saudi Arabia said that the workshop also discussed problems such as human trafficking, money laundering and cyber-crimes, as well as corruption and bribery.
Students also spoke on the importance of the awareness on crimes, and the importance of the inclusion of laws related to crime in the curriculum, where they viewed that ignorance of the law is the main reason for the youth to involve in crimes and young people who are aware of law and punishment will be careful in dealing with such issues.
