Functions of the Directorate

• Monitoring, protecting and securing the coasts and water up to (12) miles off shore.
• Taking necessary actions to prevent illegal operations within its territorial waters and follow up of law violators.
• Protection of industrial and coastal establishments under its specialization area.
• Implementation of the maritime law related to ministries and establishments in the country.
• Conducting search and rescue operations and security surveillance for marine vehicles.
• Monitoring all kinds of marine pollution hazards, Seizing the violators and referring them to the concerned body for taking actions against them.
• Securing all kinds of marine activities on the requirements of the concerned bodies.
• Detaining maritime vehicles that violated the laws until the legal actions are taken against them.
• To carry out investigations in accidents and violations at sea between vessels when ever the department is entrusted with this duty by the state.
• Combating and seizing the activities of sea piracies.
• To coordinate with Qatari Armed Forces in all above said matters.
