The functions of the department are as follow:

• Preparation and drafting various legislative instruments proposed by the ministry, as well as the decisions and circulars issued by it.
• Express an opinion on draft laws and other legislative instruments referred to the ministry.
• Follow-up of judicial disputes in which the Ministry of Interior is a party, as well as preparation of briefs and responses to the lawsuits in coordination with the competent authorities
• Provide legal advices required for all departments under the ministry.
• Express legal opinion on draft agreements and memorandums of understanding having relation with the functions of the Ministry of Interior.
• Investigation into and examination of complaints against decisions of ministry departments in accordance with the directives issued
• Express legal opinion in reports issued by the international organizations and bodies having relation with the competencies of the Ministry of the Interior.
• Review the project contracts entered into by the Ministry of Interior with other parties.
• Administrative investigation with the military personnel and the civilians in the ministry, as well as disposition of the investigation according to law
• Appeal the resolutions of the primary Disciplinary Council, as well as present those appeals directly before the Disciplinary Appeals Council.
• Take decision in grievances of the disciplinary sanctions that enter the jurisdiction of the Department of Legal Affairs.
• Erase the disciplinary sanctions for other ranks of the military and civilian staff, guards and facilities guard in accordance with law.
• Any other tasks assigned to it.
