Functions and Responsibilities of the General Directorate of Traffic:
1. Propose the annual plan for the General Directorate and implement it after approval, in line with the Ministry's general policy.
2. Enforce the provisions of the Traffic Law, its executive regulations, ministerial decisions, and relevant agreements and protocols.
3. Develop systems, rules, regulations, and plans necessary to improve the traffic system across the state.
4. Organize and operate traffic patrols, manage traffic flow, monitor roads, and accompany official convoys to ensure smooth traffic movement in coordination with relevant authorities.
5. Regulate traffic on external roads, provide technical support, and establish guidelines and controls to manage traffic movement.
6. Coordinate with the concerned authorities regarding traffic planning and road safety.
7. Promote traffic awareness and educate community members on traffic laws and guidelines to avoid violations, in collaboration with related entities.
8. Conduct traffic research, studies, and statistical analysis in coordination with relevant authorities.
9. Register, license, and renew vehicle registrations while ensuring compliance with safety and security standards.
10. Supervise entities responsible for inspecting vehicles to ensure compliance with approved Qatari standards and verify security and durability requirements set forth by the Traffic Law’s executive regulations.
11. Issue licenses and supervise schools for driver education, car rental companies, motorcycle rental businesses, limousine services, mechanical vehicle dealerships, and vehicle decoration and repair shops. Conduct inspections to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
12. Issue and renew driving licenses of all types.
13. Take legal actions regarding complaints and reports received, apprehend violators, conduct necessary investigations, collect reconciliation fees, and enforce legal measures against defaulters, as per the law.
14. Handle legal procedures for impounded vehicles and ensure proper follow-up.
15. Oversee the work of the subordinate departments within the General Directorate, develop their operations, and ensure the provision of material and human resources in coordination with relevant entities to ensure smooth workflow.
16. Propose the annual budget draft for the General Directorate.
17. Perform any other tasks assigned.
