- To investigate juvenile cases and hold juvenile delinquents or juveniles prone to delinquency and to carry out the sentences imposed against them in accordance with the Law, Article (5) of the Juveniles Act.
- Detain the delinquent child in guidance house if circumstances demand for it, for a period not exceeding 48 hours, unless the competent court sees its extension for further periods.
- Considering the best interest of the investigation or the interest of the juvenile himself, the department can detain the delinquent juvenile for a period of no more than forty-eight hours at the house of observation and produce him in front of the competent court if circumstances require extension of the period of preventive detention for a period exceeding it. (Article 26, First paragraph)
- The Juvenile Police Department, or the Court, as the case may be, can order the juvenile to be handed over to one of his parents or to whom he has the right of guardianship to look after him and present him when required. (Article 26, Last paragraph)
- At the event of juvenile delinquency, the Juvenile Police Department can take any of the following measures without a court order but with the permission of the right guardian. They can transfer him to a parent, legal guardian or a member of his or her family or a trusted family, taking the necessary undertakings for the good of his care, or hand over to the Guidance Department for his accommodation and care.
- To give advice on the case of a child who has already been sentenced in an offense, by one of the measures provided for in the articles 10, 11, 12, 13 of Juvenile Act.
- Attending the trial sessions of the juvenile and creating an execution file for each case, presented with all proceedings concerning the juvenile or court to which the case is awaiting (Article 31, 36).
- Submit requests for release under condition, of juvenile delinquents sentenced to imprisonment based on reports prepared by the Social Preparation Center in accordance with the law (article 45, Juvenile Act).
- Receiving notifications from the person responsible for the juveniles upon the death or illness of the juvenile, changing his or her residence or absence without permission, and any other emergency situation that may happen to juvenile in his behavior (article 44).
- Raising awareness and enriching the culture of the members of society towards dealing with juveniles, in coordination with the concerned authorities (Decision of the Minister of State for Internal Affairs No. 16 of 2010)
- Proposal of the annual budget of the Department
- Any other tasks assigned to it
