Traffic Directorate urges motorists not to stop on yellow boxes
The General Directorate of Traffic has urged motorists not to stop their vehicles in the yellow boxes on roads, as it blocks smooth flow of traffic and causes accidents. The Traffic Department fines QR500 and registers three points against the motorists who commit this violation by observing them through the cameras which are fixed in intersections.
The Law No. (19) of 2007 Regarding the Traffic Law in the article (72) says that “Despite having priority or if the traffic light indicates green, a motorist may not move the vehicle if such act will disrupt or hinder traffic, and whoever has priority may waive such priority if traffic conditions so require.”
As per the above rule, vehicles are not allowed to enter yellow boxes even if the signal light is green in case the road in front is congested with vehicles and they cannot exit yellow box. Aiming to bring down this type of violations, the Traffic Directorate has begun monitoring of vehicles stopping in the yellow boxes using surveillance cameras.
First Lieutenant Ahmed Ali al Kuwari, officer at Traffic Control room said that the Traffic Directorate has recorded more than 400 violations for stopping in the yellow boxes in the past two months.
"Traffic officials will monitor yellow boxes through surveillance cameras and three images of violating vehicles will be taken. The images will be sent to the violators via Metrash and a fine of QR500 will be slapped on them along with three black points," Lt. Kuwari said.
“The cameras take three pictures of the vehicle, one shows the number plate of the vehicle, the second shows the body of the vehicle and the third picture shows the position and place of the vehicle at the yellow box”.
