Classified Storage: Arranging and separating chemical components according to Chemical reactions, potential hazards and how to face it
For example:
- Keeping combustible materials away from flammable sources and well ventilated
- Allocating a separate storage place for oxidizing materials which are combustible if close to flammable materials
- Storage of materials which combust reacting with water in a dry place
- In case of storing porous materials attention should be payed to spaces and ventilation
- Isolating chemicals that if reacted together may cause fire, explosion or gas release (e.g. iodine + ammonium chloride)
- Setting signs showing the chemicals and the potential hazards
- Liquid components should be stored vertically, accessible and easily mobilized
- Do not use Diesel or Benzene vehicles in transportation
- Do not use sparkle producing cut off machines
- Do not deal with waste in a way that may produce static electricity
- Containers should be arranged in a manner that prevents accumulation of liquids in case of leakage
- Store chemicals in a dry place
- Only specialized staff can deal with chemicals and they should be protected by personal safety gear
- Having a demo for warehouses with all the details as regards the stored chemicals, potential risks and safety measures. The civil defense should have a comprehensive plan for fire fighting in each of the premises
