Competencies and Responsibilities

The Committee is responsible for several tasks in accordance with its establishing decision. Its main competencies include:

Committee Competencies:

  • Developing policies and plans in the field of traffic and working on their improvement.
  • Studying traffic problems and proposing solutions.
  • Coordinating and cooperating among various entities whose work affects the smooth flow and regulation of traffic.
  • Proposing the development of traffic-related legislation, road engineering, and transportation in line with international standards and the requirements of continuous development in roads and transport.
  • Participating in local, regional, and international seminars and conferences related to traffic.
  • Any other matters referred to it by the Minister of Interior.


Missions  of the Secretariat of the National Road Safety Committee:

The General Secretariat of the National Road Safety Committee is responsible for the administrative and executive functions of the Committee. Its duties include:

  • Proposing the dates of regular committee meetings to the Chairman and notifying members once confirmed.
  • Preparing meetings of the Committee and its sub-committees and setting their agendas.
  • Recording meeting minutes, preparing reports, and submitting reports on the Committee’s work.
  • Preparing annual reports on the Committee’s activities.
  • Drafting official correspondence of the Committee.
  • Carrying out administrative work of the Committee.
  • Implementing the Committee’s decisions and recommendations in coordination with relevant authorities.
  • Ensuring media coverage of the Committee’s activities in coordination with relevant bodies.
  • Preparing publications and media materials issued by the Committee.
  • Organizing and supervising conferences and seminars conducted by the Committee.
  • Preparing papers and contributions presented by the Committee in external conferences and seminars.
  • Promoting the objectives and functions of the Committee and building communication channels with relevant stakeholders.
  • Attracting financial and moral support from public and private national institutions.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Committee’s plans and programs with relevant authorities.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Chairman of the Committee.
