Drug Enforcement Department

Introduction

A specialized office for combating drug was established in 1977 under the National Central Bureau of Interpol that comes under the Criminal Investigation Department and was called Bureau of Interpol and Drug. In early eighties, it was developed to Drug and Alcohol Combating Unit under Criminal Investigation Section. Within the context of improvements and developments witnessed by the departments of the Ministry of Interior, Drug Combating Unit became an independent body named 'Drugs Enforcement Administration (DEA)' in 26/1/1991 by a Ministerial decree.
