During its early beginning, Communications Department was a “section” for police communication in Qatari Armed Forces headquarter. Later on, it became independent from army under the name; “Communication and Operations Department”. As per the Decree No. (8) of 2010 issued by Minister of State for Interior Affairs, the department name has been changed to ‘Communication Department’ after separating Operations under the name of ‘Central Operations Department’. Accordingly, organizational structure and functions were also reformed.
Communication Department consists of six sections which cover all areas of competence, including Technical Affairs, Systems’ Operation, Networks, Training and Development, Warehouse, and Administrative Affairs. Communication Department is devoted to providing technical services related to communication devices in all ministry departments, in addition to securing the wire and wireless communications between different ministry departments. Functions also include devices’’ installation, operation, programming, frequencies, coordination with communication companies, preparation of technical training plans, etc.
The importance of Communication Department comes from its continuous participation in providing all ministry departments with secure and effective communication network.
